Many people affected by anxiety have decided to fight it by attacking anxiety head on.  Anxiety attacks affect different people in different ways.  No two people will be affected by this illness in the exact same way.  Because anxiety affects everyone differently there is no single treatment that can be recommended for everyone.  Doctors and psychiatrist will recommend that someone affected by anxiety attacks should do one or a combination of the following:  therapy, counseling, and/or medication.

Some will find that therapy will be just what they need and will opt for this option over taking medication.  Through therapy patients can learn simple and effective techniques to help them.  A therapist can help patients to identify when an anxiety or panic attack is occurring, and they can provide breathing exercises and other techniques to help them get through it.  Therapy can also help to find out exactly why you are having panic attacks to begin with.  Therapist can also help by teaching patients how to relax and relieve stress through practicing meditation and yoga.  Both yoga and meditation are effective in helping people to clear the mind and body of stresses caused by the outside world.

Medication can be a tremendous help to some patients.  Anxiety medications help to give balance to the chemicals in the brain that affect this illness.  It must be realized that medication alone may not be enough to help fight anxiety.  Medication combined with counseling and therapy may be necessary.

There is no way to cure panic attacks overnight.  Both medication and therapy take time and effort to work for the patient.  Anyone who suspects that they may be suffering from panic attacks should be encouraged to seek medical help right away.  The attacks will not go away by themselves.  If you want to have any hope of living a normal life it is imperative that you seek appropriate help as soon as possible.

Not every treatment will work for every individual, but by attacking anxiety head on you may find a treatment that works for you.
