Y iPhone
On June 30, 2007 Apple, Inc. made history. Then again on July 11, 2007 Apple, Inc. made history again. Most people will totally miss the significance of these two dates. They are in fact the dates that the 2G and 3G iPhones were released. The first date is significant because Apple finally released one of the most anticipated consumer electronics gadgets in recent memory. The second date is historic because I believe Apple has finally achieved the Holy Grail of the computer industry.... The 3G iPhone is the first introduction of a personal computer that can be operated like a TV.Sounds crazy? Maybe, but the iPhone is more than just a phone. It’s a mini computer. With the introduction of the App Store Apple has created a device that is unrivaled in my opinion at the present time.At the present time there are over 800 application in the App Store and thousands more on the way. Apple has a mature development environment and API (Application Programming Interface) that are easy to use. Once more developer’s discover the joys of working with Apple’s tools the number of Apps will skyrocket even more.
The phone is simply easy to use. I have had the iPhone since the day it came out, and I have yet to look at the user guide. Now that’s not saying much I know, because most guys and most people in general don’t use the owner’s manual. But, I was issued a Motorola Razr from my job and just to figure out where basic stuff was located was not intuitive. The iPhone’s design is simple and easy to use. To illustrate my point it passes the Mom Test. My Mom can use my iPhone without me having to help her understand how it works! That’s a first. Not only does she understand how it works, but she’s going to buy a 3G iPhone. On the other end of the spectrum my 3 kids ( 7, 8, and 10 yrs. old ) can all use my iPhone without needing instruction from me. They all where able to pick it up and use it with no problem. With the 3G iPhone Apple has introduced the world to the very first always on, always connected mobile computer. At present there is no other phone out their like it. Anyone can make a touch screen phone, anyone can add an mp3 player to a phone, anyone can add visual voicemail to a phone, and anyone can add GPS, a camera, and applications to a phone. However, only Apple has put together a phone that is tightly integrated with your computer and the internet.
It’s Apple’s software that makes the iPhone an iPhone and no one else has that and by the time they do Apple will be on to the next Great Thing.
